How To Make Your Next Flight Super Comfy!

travel girl

Traveling..  why is something so amazing but yet so uncomfortable?  With annoying checks through security, small seats in economy, & with fewer amenities on board airplanes, it seems impossible to travel comfortably.  Here, with these items you can make your flight more pleasant!

travel woman pillow

Travelrest Ultimate Travel PIllow, $30

travel pillow

Travelmate Memory Foam Neck Pillow, $12

-Get your own pillow.  Yes, I know everyone seems to have one nowadays, but is yours comfortable?  I personally prefer the pillows with beads vs. inflatable, but did you know that you can get one in memory foam as well?  If you’re one of those who love to lean while you sleep, now they sell ones that you can comfortably lean on!

travel blanket

World’s Best Cozy Microfleece Travel Blanket, $10

-Bring your own blanket.  Well, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a blanket; you could cover yourself with your coat or a large scarf.   The temperatures in the cabin can change very suddenly, so it’s best to stick to the safe side & bring your own.

eye mask and ear plugs travelear plugs

Eye mask & ear plugs, $13, Hearos Earplugs, 14 pairs, $6

-Utilize eye masks / ear plugs.  If you’re sensitive to light, an eye mask would be a wise investment.  Personally I’m very sensitive to noise, so I always have on hand: earplugs.  There are times when I hear crying children, or other people talking that I just want to drown them out & not be bothered when I’m trying to sleep.

sony noise canceling headphonesSymphonized noise isolating earphones

Sony’s Noise Canceling Headphones, $41, Symphonize Wood In Ear Phones, $26

Bring noise canceling head / earphones.  Of course, you’d want to bring your own pair, & not be stuck with the cheap ones that the airlines give out.  Or worse, be forced to buy theirs!  Nowadays if you get earphone foam tips, some of them are made with memory foam, so that when it expands it shapes to the inside of your ear!  Enjoy whatever music you want to listen to (at a better quality!), or just put them on to drown out the noise around you.

water bottle

-A water bottle.  You definitely want something to drink on a long flight.  If you want, bring a bottle to the airport (make sure you empty it by the time you go through security) & you can just refill it after you check in, or on the airplane.

Optional Things:

toothbrush toothpaste floss

-Toothbrush & toothpaste: If you bring it on you, the toothpaste will have to go in the clear plastic bag that the TSA approves.  If you have a short flight probably don’t have to worry about it; but for long flights it can be refreshing.   Especially if you’re meeting people when you land, you don’t want to greet them with morning breath after a 16 hour flight.  If it makes you feel better, go for it!

travel slippers.jpg

Cotton Cloth Spa Slippers, $11

-Slippers.  Again, it’s nice for the long flights.  Little known fact about airplanes: your feet actually swell during a flight!  In general, best to avoid uncomfortable shoes when traveling.  If you feel like throwing on a pair of slippers to be more comfortable, by all means get a pair.  And because you can never predict the temperature in the cabin, never forget to wear / bring a pair of socks!  Click here for a wide variety of travel slippers!

travel seat cushion

FlyCushion Seat Cushion, $35

Portable seat cushion?  Hey if you find their seats uncomfortable, why not?  Also this is great for people who have back pain.   Click here for a wide variety of travel seat cushions!

-Bring your Ipad, Kindle, favorite books / movies.   When you have to suffer through long flights, usually most airlines nowadays have individual tvs for each passenger & you have a wide selection of movies to watch.  There have been times where I was stuck on one of those large domestic flights where they only had small monitors for viewing, up by the ceiling.  And there was an occasion where the audio was broken on my side of the plane!  And there was another incident when I flew & had the unfortunate luck of being stuck with a broken tv; and all the airline could offer me was a $5 refund when I landed.  Be on the safe side & bring your favorite things to listen to / watch / read.  Tip: If you do bring an Ipad, Kindle, or cell phone, don’t forget the chargers!

Other Ideas:

-Wear a sports bra underneath.  For the long flights, I’ll wear a sports bra instead of a regular one.  I’m sorry for me, a regular bra is suffocating (even on an airplane) after many hours.

-Bring your favorite lotion / rollerball of perfume on the airplane.  This will have to go in the plastic bag that the TSA approves.  But just to smell nice after a long flight is nice.  And the air on the plane can be drying, so to moisturize feels great.  My personal favorites?  Moringa travel sized body butter, $7, or Jurlique’s Rose hand cream, $25.  Both floral scented; the hand cream from Jurlique actually smells like fresh roses!

ELF makeup remover wipes

E.L.F. Makeup Remover Wipes, $3

-Also bring makeup wipes: Can’t wash your face?  Makeup wipes can take off dirt, oil & makeup in a pinch, without having to worry about trying to wash your face in an airplane bathroom sink.  Plus this is something else that doesn’t need to go in that little clear plastic bag.

evian facial spray

Evian Mineral Spray, $15 for 2 travel size bottles

Of course, you could use this when you’re feeling particularly dry on the plane.  (This will have to go in the plastic bag)  Give yourself a nice mist during the flight!

sephora rose sleeping mask

Sephora Collection’s Rose Sleeping Mask, $4

This rose mask is supposed to plump skin & give skin a boost of radiance!  I’ve heard of women using sheet masks on planes; but you’re bound to get strange looks from someone wondering, ‘What is she doing?’  With a sleeping mask, you don’t have to worry!  Use this gel to coat your face, right before you nod off, & wake up with moisturized skin!  And don’t throw out the package; one is enough to coat your face at least twice!  And why not get more for your money?

Finally, what to wear:

If you are traveling between time zones, check out my other article: What to wear when traveling between time zones!! And still look fashionable!  It is very chic to fly in a suit, unless you have a short flight, you will end up looking like a wrinkled napkin by the time you land; not to mention uncomfortable.  If you want to be comfy, & still look somewhat fashionable, opt for a track suit.  Fashion no nos: I’ve mentioned these before, but don’t wear these on a plane: pajamas or sweats.  Children can get away with wearing pjs, & you’re not hitting the gym so save the sweats for another day.

  2. Some great tips here! I especially like the tip about bringing a Kindle with you. Nothing makes the time pass faster than a good book. It even makes discomfort seem non-existent! 🙂
