Kylie Lip Kit, originally $29 (now sold out), vs. Colour Pop’s Ultra Matte Lip in Clueless, Beeper, & Limbo, $6 each

Did you know that Kylie Jenner’s lip kit literally sold out in 20 minutes?  Did you want to get your hands on it?  Now you don’t have to wait in line!  Get Colour Pop’s Ultra Matte Lip in 3 different colors!

Kylie Jenner’s Metal Lip Gloss Kit, $54 for 3 lip glosses, (now sold out), vs. NYX’s Wicked Lippie in Wrath, $6, CoverGirl’s Colorlicious Lip Lava Lipgloss in Lava Glow, $8, & CoverGirl Blast Flipstick in Snap, $5

Surprise!  Kylie Jenner’s second lip gloss set, also sold out immediately.  BUT, you can get some drugstore substitutes without having to wait for her to restock!  And at a fraction of the price, if you get all 3 lipsticks, it’ll only cost you $19!

The Beauty Blender, $20, Real Techniques Sponge, $6, & Swissco’s Precision Blending Sponge, $6

If you use makeup, you probably have heard of the Beauty Blender.  And it has completely changed the way women have been putting on foundation!  And it’s so popular that dozens of imitations have popped up!  The Real Techniques Sponge is a great substitute, (and at 1/5 the price!), & I find that Swissco’s Precision Blending Sponge is a great one as well!  On how to use it, & for reviews on a bunch of makeup sponges, click on HOW TO USE THE BEAUTY BLENDER!! AND MY MASSIVE REVIEW OF MAKEUP SPONGES!!

nars ita contour brush.jpgking fansion contour brush sub nars brush.jpg

Nars Ita Brush, $55, vs. Kingfansion’s Professional Flat Contour Brush, $3

A highly coveted makeup brush for contouring, it’s liked by makeup artists & enthusiasts alike!  So popular that other inexpensive substitutes are sold out!  But why spend $55 on one brush when you can spend just $3 on Kingfansion’s version?  Too good to be true?  It has nearly perfect reviews on Amazon!

Becca x Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Glow Palette, $34 (now sold out), vs. Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Palette, $62

Last year, Australia makeup brand Becca started a collaboration with Youtube sensation & makeup artist Jaclyn Hill.  Together they created a makeup palette called Becca x Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Glow Palette, which was retailing at just $34! However, due to sheer popularity, Sephora sold 25,000 of them in 20 minutes!  And it’s a limited edition item so now the only place you can find it is on Ebay.  And people will sell them at ridiculous inflated prices.  But instead, why not try Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Palette which is also sold at Sephora, that has similar shades as well?

Urban Decay’s Naked Palette, $54, vs. NYC Lovatics by Demi Eye Shadow Kit, $6

An extremely popular brand & ranked as one of Allure Magazine’s Best of Beauty Award, Urban Decay’s Naked palettes are the most pinned on Pinterest!  And due to its popularity, lots of other makeup brands have come up with their versions, or imitations of it by appealing to their lower prices.  I have seen reviews of this palette, NYC Lovatics by Demi Eye Shadow Kit, & I’ve noticed that more than 1 person has mentioned that it appears to be a dupe for Urban Decay’s Original Naked Palette.  Hey, if you can get almost the same thing for cheaper, why not?

Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky Palette, $54, E.L.F. Everyday Smoky Eyeshadow Palette, $10

Do you see what I mean by more than one brand has made their versions of the Naked palettes?  Above you see one from NYC Lovatics by Demi Eye Shadow Kit, & now you have one from E.L.F.!  and this one you can get literally for 1/5th the price!  And I’ve mentioned before, that when it comes to high end or drugstore makeup, the only person that knows the difference is you!

beauty-dupes-christian-louboutin-essie-600x600.jpg

Christian Louboutin’s Nail Colour in Very Prive, $50, vs. Essie Nail Polish in A-list, $9

I remember when Christian Louboutin launched a nail polish collection & it debuted at Sephora.  Glamorous, elegantly designed, and not to mention, expensive!  All of their nail polishes are $45 and higher!  But why put that dent in your wallet when you can get an Essie nail polish that’s just as good?  Or get yourself a long lasting gel nail polish & save that money for something else.

Mason Pearson Hair Brush, $90, Sonia Kashuk’s Hair Brush, $15

Who knew that there was even a hierarchy when it came to hair brushes?  Originally made in 1860 by a Yorkshireman named Mason Pearson, which became so popular that it’s now sold worldwide & is cited as a favorite of the British Royal family!  And it comes with a hefty price tag, too: made with a mixture of artificial & boar bristles, the least expensive one I found online was a junior version for $90!  Usually this brush goes for at least $100!  But for a hairbrush?  Sonia Kashuk, a makeup artist who has started her own line of cosmetics & tools sold exclusively at Target, sometimes makes a lower priced version of a popular beauty product.  Heard of the Beauty Blender?  She made her version at half the price.  (Check out my reviews on the Beauty Blender & lots of other makeup sponges here. The Mason Pearson Brush?  Hers only costs $15!  And if you read the reviews (on the link provided) several customers have claimed that it’s just as good as the original!

Madina Milano’s Chic & Shine Stick, 15 euros, Flower’s Highlighter Chubby, $10

A popular highlighter among makeup artists, Madina Milano’s Chic & Shine Stick is only sold in Italy!  Even though it’s not sold in the US, the next best thing you can get is Flower’s Highlighter Chubby!

artis brushes and kingstar 10 pc brushes.jpg

Artis Brush Elite Smoke 5 Brush set, $165, Kingstar 10 PCS Makeup Brushes, $38

This is the most expensive item on this list: these high end expensive brushes sold on websites like Neiman Marcus & Net-a-Porter, just for a set of 5 cost $165!  You can buy the brushes individually, & they have different sets in different sizes.  Of course, the more brushes you want to buy, the higher the price!  Praised for their unique design & high quality, each brush is has densely packed bristles!  I personally first heard of it when Kylie Jenner was giving a friend a makeover & happened to brush on moisturizer with 1 of their brushes.  Now due to their popularity, more inexpensive versions have popped up on the market as well!  A 9 brush set of Artis brushes will set you back $450!!  But why spend that amount of money on makeup brushes?

giorgio armani face fabric second skin nude vs. l'oreal magic smooth souffle.jpg

Giorgio Armani’s Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup, $51 (now discontinued) vs. L’Oreal’s Magic Smooth Souffle, $12

Fans of Armani’s Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup loved that it was light, & many exclaiming that it felt more like a tinted moisturizer, than a foundation.  And unfortunately, it has since been discontinued.  (You can only buy them now off third party vendors, or Ebay.)  But most of the prices are going to be inflated, so why waste your money in vain over a product that’s no longer made?  You can get something inexpensive that’s just as good!

chanel rouge allure laque vs. nyx xtreme lip cream absolute red.jpg

Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque, $37, vs. NYX’s Xtreme Lip Cream, $6

Of course, no makeup arsenal is complete without a bold, red lipstick.  And of course, who can deny the appeal of having one in Chanel?  The price tag that comes with it (for a single lipstick!) is a bit steep.  Instead, get the one by NYX that is just as nice!

Did you like this list?  Most importantly save your money!  I’ve mentioned this before, but the only person that cares about your wallet, is you!

  2. I’m so glad you posted that brush. My stylish uses mason pearson and always encourages me to pick one up and I was almost starting to get close to justifying the cost to myself.
