How To Make Your Beauty Stash Travel Friendly!

travel girl suitcase

Makeup?  Check.  Trip planned?  Check.  But what about packing it?  I’m sure we’ve all met the dilemma of how to pack glass bottles, or how to bring a makeup palette without eyeshadows or blushes shattering into a million pieces.  Let me show you how to pack your beauty items properly without anything breaking!

How to pack:

-Makeup palettes: line the inside lid with drawer liners.  This is a challenge for anyone, with fear that your makeup will break up into pieces like chalk.  So how do you do it?  I actually got this tip from a makeup artist friend of mine, who works at MAC; he puts drawer liner inside all of his makeup palettes!  That you could easily pick up at Target, Walmart, or the dollar store!  Cut it to the appropriate size, make it stay by rolling some tape, & it’s slim enough for the case to close!  Inexpensive, & convenient!

Tip: You should always treat your palettes delicately, regardless of how you insulate it.  It’s an easy fix should a blush / eyeshadow break, but if anyone has gone through the experience: it can be quite messy.  Stick to the safe side & treat your palette like a fragile item.

Lay N Go Cosmetic Bag, $20

-Individual Makeup Products: Of course, you could always pack your makeup in a makeup bag, but I think this is an amazing one to go with when you travel.  Especially if you have a lot of it, & end up endlessly digging through your bag.  With this new product on the market, you can pack all of your makeup, & then open & spread it out once you need it!

-The Ultimate Travel Makeup Bag: brand new on the market, this makeup bag has 2 removable cosmetic bags for all your items, 2 elastic straps to hold your brushes, & suction cup side that sticks to your palettes, & a light up mirror!  And it zips up into a side body bag!  The mirror, as well as other cosmetics & tools are sold separately.  You could literally open it & put your makeup on anywhere!  Sign up for that email for 15% off!

Other Options: For the light traveler: A small makeup bag, For the long term traveler: Mary Kay’s Roll Up Bag, $20

Of course, if you’re the girl who loves being low key, a small makeup bag should do the trick.  For the longer trips, perhaps you would want to get a roll up makeup bag, which not only does it fold up, but has separate pouches that you can pull out & put back!  Compact & convenient!  For makeup bags in general, my favorite places to buy them are Target, Forever21, & Victoria’s Secret!

Clockwise:  Target’s Gravity Feed Travel Bottles (in store only) $1 each, Cool Gear Silicone Squeezable Tubes 3 oz $10, Cool Gear Silicone Tubes Assorted Sizes $8,  Travel Spray Bottles (in store only), $1 each, Weekender Cosmetic Bag $20,

-Bath & Body Products: You could pick up the travel sized bottles that cost $1 each, or you could get the silicone kind!  I have a slight preference for the silicone ones, for they are easy to squeeze (to get out all the product), & when you’re done with them you could just pop them in the dishwasher!  If you’re taking a short trip, you could probably fit them all in a small makeup bag, but for the longer trips you might need a weekender (above).

E.L.F. Makeup Remover Wipes $3, Almay Makeup Remover Pads $2

-Makeup Wipes: I think these are great for when you travel.  No need to deal with bottles or liquids; just swipe the face & it’s makeup free!  And when you’re on the road, it’s a quick way to cleanse your face!

Pencil Case $2, Makeup Brush Cup Holder $4

-Makeup Brushes: If you’re only carrying a few, you could get away with putting them in the same case as the rest of your makeup, or a pencil case.  However if you are bringing quite a few, get a proper carrying case for them, so that the bristles don’t get crushed / damaged inside your suitcase.

atomizer

Atomizer, $5

-Perfume: Bring an atomizer.  If you absolutely want to have your favorite fragrance with you on a trip, don’t bring the bottle.  Instead, get an atomizer which is a small spray bottle literally the size of a lipstick!

manicure kit

Miss AJ Manicure Kit, $12

-Manicure kit: For your convenience, it might be wise to bring one.  Even if you don’t love manicures, you never know when you might chip a nail moving luggage around.  The last you’d want is to be searching in another country for a nail clipper.

la colors nail polish remover

LA Colors Scented Nail Polish Remover, $2

-Nail Polish Remover Wipes:  Ever wanted to do your nails on a trip, & was worried about packing bottles of liquid?  (The nail polish, & the remover)  Now this is 1 less bottle for you to worry about!  Give yourself the manicure that you want on your trip!

When packing glass: Important tip: Stay away from glass bottles or containers.  It is possible to successfully pack glass, but there’s always a risk that it could break.  Try to utilize travel bottles or the atomizer (above) as much as possible.  If you absolutely need to pack glass containers, make sure you pack them well inside your clothes / towels.

luggage packing

Bottom line: When packing your makeup and / or bath & body essentials, make sure they go at the top of the suitcase, or put it in the interior zip pocket.  Ideally, you should not have all your other items crushing your makeup or your toiletries.  The last thing you would want is to find shattered makeup or shower gel leaking all over your belongings.
