Most women have a flat iron, just to straighten your hair. But did you know that there are other ways you can use it? Did you know that you could use it to make curly hair? Keep reading to find out!
Berta 2 in 1 Hair Curler & Hair Straightener, $16
-Get rid of frizzy hair. Maybe you’ve noticed that when you use a flat iron on your hair, it helps get rid of frizz. If you feel the anti-frizz treatments aren’t enough, put a straightener through your hair.
-Beachy waves. By parting your hair into sections, & wrap it around the straightener, & then pull it down. Click on this link to watch the how to video!
-Mermaid curls. Get this lovely bouncy curly look by curling your hair as you would when curling ribbon! Click here to watch the video!
-Fake a blow dry. Did you know that you could get that with a hair straightener? Don’t you love the way your hair looks right after you come out of a salon, but aren’t dextrous enough to do it yourself? Now you can! You will need round hair brushes, or rollers. Click here to watch the video! If you would like an easier version, click here
.
-Another variation of the fake blow dry. To do this one, pull your hair straightener down your hair (as you normally would), but as you reach the end, rotate it & wrap the hair around it as if it were a curling iron. Click here to watch how!
-Victoria Secret Angel’s wavy hair. Get bouncy curls worthy of the runway with this trick! Click here to watch how!
-A Modern Crimp. Get waves a la Game of Thrones with this technique; where you press down the flat iron, & then turn it up, open, move it down, press, then turn it down. Repeat this process as you continue down the length of your hair! Click here to watch how!
-A temporary hair color. Always wanted to play with colors in your hair but don’t want it to be permanent? Now you can! Rub some hair chalk on your hair, & then seal it in with your straightener! (Don’t do this on a rainy day unless you want the colors to stain your clothes!) Click here to watch how!
Things You May Need:
L’oreal’s Sleek It Iron Straight Heatspray, $5, Tresemme’s 4 Plus 4 Extra Firm Hold Hairspray, $9
Hair protectant: especially if you have dry hair, you’d want to protect it from the heat. Constant styling of your hair with heated tools like a flat / curling iron, can be damaging. Also heat protectants add shine & help combat frizz!
Hair spray: You’ve spent some time styling your hair, you’d want the look to last. This is actually the hairspray that they use in the salon I go to; I love it because it has a flexible hold without making hair hard or crunchy.

I’ve tried using my flat iron for curls, but I usually can’t duplicate any of the nice looks. But, luckily for me, I have a daughter who can work magic with the flat iron, and if she’s in the mood, she’ll do my hair for me.
