How To Change Up Your Beauty Routine When You Travel!

How to take care of your skin when you travel!  I’ve written about what to pack for a vacation, for a weekend, & what to wear when you travel between time zones!  Ok, so I’ve given you tips on what to pack, wear, & now what to put on your skin!  The same way you would adjust your clothes when you land in a new destination; you would need to adjust your skincare routine as well.

Sounds like a big deal?  It doesn’t have to be.  But you don’t want to have to worry about breakouts, dry skin, or getting sunburnt on your trip.  Here take a look, & be prepared!

Snowy & Cold

You need something moisturizing, as well as something with sunscreen.  Just like you need sunscreen in the summer, you need it in the winter as well.  (Ice & snow can reflect the sun’s rays)  Plus you want to keep your skin moisturized vs. dry & itchy in the cold weather.  As in any winter weather, avoid long, hot showers for that can dehydrate your skin.

So you’re going to a tropical location, but don’t want to get sun burnt or break out.  So you want a lightweight daytime moisturizer that won’t clog your pores, & also give you protection from the sun.  After a day at the pool / beach, it’s best to wipe your face with pads that have glycolic acid; that helps exfoliate the skin & open up pores, & then use a balancing face wash!

L’Oreal’s Revitalift Complete SPF 30 Day Lotion, $12, Nip & Fab’s Glycolic Night pads, $12, Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock, $11, Alba’s Botanica Hawaiian Pineapple Facial Cleanser (Pack of 2) $14

Warm And Dry

Hot & dry climates can wreak havok on your skin, & you’ll need to stay hydrated (so drink plenty of water!) as well without using heavy creams.  Serums are great (especially those with hyaluronic acid) which moisturize without causing oiliness.  Keep showers short, & keep aloe on hand just in case for sunburns or irritated skin.  Feel free to bring a bottle of facial spray, to give yourself some extra moisture on those days you feel especially dry!

Avene Mineral SPF 30 Ultra Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion, $20, Hada Labo’s Skin Plumping Cream, $22 The Body Shop’s Aloe Skin Care Travel Kit, $25 (Click here for The Body Shop’s whole Aloe line!), Evian’s Facial Spray 4 oz for $7.50, or 3 pack of 1.7 oz for $21

On the plane

The temperature of the cabin on airplanes can leave your skin dry at high altitudes.  In case you can’t wash your face, keep a pack of face wipes (and the great thing about them is that they’re not liquids so you don’t need to force them into the tiny plastic bag that the TSA allows), a face mist to keep yourself hydrated, (or get the Evian face spray from above, if you’d like) and a moisturizing sleep mask that hydrates & that you don’t need to wash off!

Sephora Collection’s Rose Sleeping Mask, $4, Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes, $6, First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist, 2.0 oz for $16

Otherwise, have fun & be safe when you travel!
